Scotch - Single Malt
The Glenlivet 1964 Cellar Collection
This spirit has yet to face the slings and arrows of the rating agencies.
The Glenlivet Distillery (note the use of the indefinite article "the" allowed by court decree in 1884) is the top-selling single malt scotch in the world. It is often considered the classic Speyside, producing unpeated (that is, non-smoky) scotch whisky. The name translates as "valley of the smooth flowing one." They are proud of their mineral rich water from "Josie's well" and their tall copper stills, producing lighter vapors for smoother, more buoyant whisky.
Part of the special "Cellar" collection, the 1964 is extraordinarily rare with less than 2,000 bottles in the United States. For its hefty price, we hope it's good. The folks at Glenlivet certainly think it's something remarkable; they tell us that it is an "ASTONISHING BEAUTY" and indicate that its "Nose [is] busting with buttery cake and floral aromas."
