American Whiskey - Bourbon
Traverse City Whiskey Company Straight Bourbon
This is a Tier 3 score in the Whiskey category. It means critics recommended the spirit but it will be a value brand or have an exotic taste.
Traverse City Whiskey Company is located in southern (lower peninsula) Michigan. Their whiskey is based upon a recipe begun with Czechoslovakian immigrant John Silhavy who brought his brewing master to the country and whose son, John Jr perfected the recipe during Prohibition. The recipe was uncovered and reproduced by the new Traverse City Company in 2013. They claim to be planting their own barley, corn, and rye for their own whiskey production. (Note: during the interim, their whiskey is being produced elsewhere--it is filed with the federal Tax and Trade Bureau as sourced from RGI Brands in Lansing, MI.)
The Traverse City straight bourbon is aged at their distillery and is at least 4 years old prior to bottling.
