Proof66 Notes

Tyrconnell was originally named for a racehorse who won at 100:1 odds Irish National Produce Stakes. The name is translated from Gaelic as "land of O'Donnell". It was at one time produced at the Watts Distillery but closed in 1925.

The nose is that of oiled leather, an expensive shoe perhaps, dry fruit notes of the Madeira, a light nuttiness in the taste...a dry finish. This whiskey has a singular flavor that is true to a single malt. I agree that the proof score is too low for the quality of this whiskey. 4.2/5.0 Irish Single Malt Mark

Much better than the Proof score would indicate. Fantastic smooth whiskey, love the soft fruit and nip on the lips.

I will start with my usual disclaimer that everyones taste is different. Completely agree with MVP1 on this. I tried this at an Irish bar downtown that has some very exotic whiskeys. I read the review before my visit. When I got my pour I was amazed that it did indeed have a strong strawberry aroma and was amazingly smooth. I special ordered a bottle as a treat to myself.

This whiskey deserves its wonderful awards, that said if you are famillier with the standard tyrconnell single malt and liked it then it shoud be a no brainer to buy a bottle of this exceptional whiskey. The nose has a lot of things going on, honey strawberry and maybe some sort of spice. The palate brings more of the honey and at the end with spice and you guessed it strawberry, and of course the traditional oak for the tyrconnell. I did find just a drop of water made it more enjoyable, for this one is 46%.. BUT STILL VERY SMOOTH.. Wonderful whiskey, going to try the port and sherry cask versions next.
