Proof66 Notes

Wild Turkey 101 rye is their high-proof rye whiskey expression. Where corn (the major grain in bourbon) gives a sweet, mellow flavor rye is regarded as having a spicier and more robust profile.

This is my 2nd Rye Whiskey i've tried so i'm not sure how to review it, however i don't think it is good as the first rye i tried (Bulleit). Not too interesting nose in my opinion, and is not rich as it's bourbon counterpart. Has bit of a burn with spicy finish. I don't quite enjoy this as the Wild Turkey 101 Bourbon.

Ok, I guess, but to be honest I am not a fan of most rye whiskeys at all. A bit hot but I guess if your buying a Wild Turkey 101 whiskey you'd expect that. Ice helps a little but it has that rye kind of "off" taste that lingers with me. I'll just say it could be smoother. Those on the fence about rye could be better off with Angles Envy rye or Whistle Pig.

This may be a great value, but its not a great rye whiskey. Its way to smooth for a rye and has little of the expected spiciness. With little apparent aging, it also offers nothing interesting on the palate that makes me want to come back for more. If you want to make a great rye-based mint julep, then this is a great value. If youre looking for a nice rye for sipping, then check out Willett Straight Rye for a bit more.

Im guessing the mash bill includes around 60% to 70% rye. This is not the most rye-forward whiskey you can find; but, for the price, it might be the best. In Southern California, I can get Rittenhouse 100 for about the same price. I like Rittenhouse, but it tastes more like a rye-influenced bourbon than a rye-heavy whiskey. Wild Turkey simply provides more rye for the price.
