Proof66 Notes

Yamazaki 18yr Single Malt Japanese whisky is the older expression from Yamazaki. It is on the older side of the Yamazaki expressions, often considered the best range of age by connoisseurs of single malt whiskey. They suggest looking for flavors of blackberry, strawberry, and dark chocolate.

Easily the top-of-the-line Lexus of Japanese whisky! Can easily go toe to toe with the best Highlands and come out on top! Take everything from Yamazaki 12 year, add more smoothness and a slight hint of citrus-like sweetness and you're most of the way there. Add on a powerful but respectful and pleasant finish and that's about the best I can describe it. You need to taste this one to get the full experience. The whisky won't disappoint, but the price is steep. Treat yourself one and get a bottle to share with your best friends or business associates. Like a top-of-the-line Lexus, this exudes class from beginning to end.

This is one of my all-time favorite bottles. A well-balanced masquerade of soft oak, very subtle fruit, and mild smoke. The only thing better than having this in my bar would be enjoying a glass at the Suntory Distillery. Beyond the incredible quality, the price point is quite distracting and unfortunately, unapproachable. I wanted to ding it a full star for that, but I just couldn't do it. If you get an opportunity to taste this little slice of heaven, don't pass it up.

4.45/5, very good! Some classy sherry casks in here but by no means a sherry monster... If this was $90 I'd stock it regularly but at this price I'm afraid it's a special occasion only bottle. better than macallan 18, better than glenmorangie 18, better than most 18s. Do try!

one of the best Japanese single malt whiskies. if you wanna try a single malt whisky that is on par with the very best of Scotch single malts, you are looking at one from the Far East. great character in this Yamazaki than its younger sibling; must try the 18 year old.

This is the first time that I have been disappointed by a whisky that I was so looking forward to trying. The smell is definitely overwhelming in the glass, but is mostly of a burnt character and some sherried fruits. On first sip this reminds me of striking all of the notes on a xylophone in quick succession.. but unfortunately the char/soot/ash character (does not taste like peat to me at all) is very difficult to handle. I have had old bourbon and scotch that I have enjoyed very much for their woody maturity, but with the Japanese whisky I will stick with the 12.

This has to be one of the most technically perfect spirits I've ever had. There's absolutely no burn on the tongue, the aromas and finish are perfect oak... my only knock is char, which I found a little heavy personally. But I can see why people love this whisky and think a bunch of people would swear by it.
