Proof66 Notes

Coquerel Fine Calvados is their entry level spirit, made in the traditional French fashion of brandy made from the press of apples and aged in oak. They say it is aged for a minimum of 2 years in smaller oak barrels (presumably to promote greater contact with the wood).

Domaine du Coquerel was founded in 1937 by Rene Gilbert as "Calvados Gilbert." The company was purchased in 1971 by a German company but became independent in 1996.

It's just lacking in every aspect of the experience. A little too watered down. A little too harsh. A little too sour. Has a medicinal note in the aroma, which I like in an Islay, but it doesn't really fit in an apple brandy. It's not bad to the point that I can't finish my glass, but I do regret my purchase.
