Proof66 Notes

Big Gin is the first release from Captive Spirits made in the tradition of the London Dry style. They describe it as having a "burnt orange and juniper nose." According to the detailed write-up at Seattle Met, the distillate comes from 100% corn, which is a bit unusual in the gin world, where a lot of the distillate uses wheat, rye, or barley. We're told Captive Spirits aims for the most neutral flavor profile possible with the corn grain to help showcase the botanicals.

Big Gin is a very, very dry gin designed, in our opinion, for classic cocktails. Best use is in the driest of dry Martinis. Overall it's quite decent but we feel it will have a hard time standing out. Be warned: don't overuse vermouth or other mixers; it can damage this gin! We can recommend for Washington State classic gin fans.
