Proof66 Notes

Familia Camarena tequilas are a testament to the six-generation tequila family that makes claim to founding Arandas, Mexico: "today's epicenter of highland tequila production." They return to traditional, hands-on methods with slow-roasted agave and chemical-free milling. The label is owned by Gallo

A fine and not much aged(apparently 60 days in oak) tequila. On the nose earthly, Roasted Pepper, Vegetable, salt, herbs. Tasting wise is Almond, agave, nut butter, pepper. Adding a few drops of water sweetens the agave. Not complex, good quality for mixing, and definitely worth a few dollars more over mixtos.

When it comes to tequila I am sipper, the most I do is put some ice in it to see the change in flavor profiles. I enjoyed this tequila, I thought it was a little light for a reposado but not every reposado has to be dark and bold. I would say this tequila would be good for shots with only a slight burn. This one is not as sweet as some other tequila's, but it is not bitter by any means. The flavors are not overpowering but you can still tell it is tequila. I sipped on this all night and did not think about switching.

Not bad, not offensive, not really there. Disappears in a margarita with no real character. Might as well make it with vodka. Smells cheap in the glass neat and doesn't really improve it's position when sipped neat. A little hot with a bitter finish. lacks the refinement I would expect from a resposado. If you are looking for a cheap nondescript mixing tequila though this is for you.

(3 out of 5). It's not something I'd sip, but this is really good for what it is; cheap, 100% agave, nicely presented, and just above the bottom shelf in price. Also much better than the very hot blanco. Perfectly good for making a paloma, one of my favorite cocktails (the typical recipe calls for tequila and grapefruit soda, but I make it with tequila, fresh squeezed lime, grapefruit juice and sprite, yum!). Move up from Cuervo and Sauza and get this if you're just mixing! I think this is about $17 where I live.

You know, as a cheap tequila, its just fine. Its very boring, its a little hot on the finish, but its quite serviceable. I suggest as an excellent cheap mixer for parties.

The reposado offering from Camarena is significantly better than the silver. Quite smooth and ready for sipping right out of the bottle. Even better chilled and heavenly in a margarita. At this price point, it's hard to beat.

This has become my go to tequila when I want quality, but don't want to spend a lot of money. Works great straight and in mixed drinks. Does it hold a candle to Don Julio Reposado? Of course not! But at a third the price, it's the best buy in tequila right now.

Incredible value. Beautiful agave nose, rich toasted notes, dark spice and cinnamon. Smooth and clean finish. This is a wonderful tequila to be enjoyed straight or mixed.
