Proof66 Notes

Partida reposado tequila is made by the "People of Partida" who claim to have made a marriage between age-old traditions in growing and cultivating agave and modern technologies employing steel for baking the agave. The line was founded recently in 2001 by Gary Shansby who has successfully launched several brands of food (notably Famous Amos Cookies).

This is rather subte reposado with light nose of agave, vanilla and hints of fruitiness. On the palate you get earthy, green agave with oak, fruits, and whiskey-like flavor. A good reposado, but not a memorable one.

Partida Tequila Review Blanco, Reposado & Anejo I was pleased to be contacted by Partida Tequila regarding a review of their top-shelf tequila line. I had heard impressive musings regarding the brand and was eager to see how it measured up against some of the more established names in the ever competitive world of tequila-making. I was sent three samples of their 80 proof line, Blanco, Reposado and Anejo in an impressive sampler box. But before I begin my review, let me give a brief history of the line and some information from Partida themselves. According to their website, “The Tequila Partida story begins in 2001. Gary Shansby, noted San Francisco - based marketer and brand builder with Famous Amos Cookies, Mauna Loa Macadamias Nuts, Terra Chips, and Vitamin Water already to his credit, had a long-time wish, a wish to apply his expertise to the development of a premium spirit. This drive, along with his deep love and respect for Mexico, inspired him to immerse himself in Mexico's rich and distinguished Tequila culture. His findings? The key to a top-quality Tequila is a carefully cultivated supply of blue agave, the source of premium tequila. Through his research into the romantic heritage of Mexico's tequila region, Shansby observed the similarities between tequila and fine wine, another renowned agricultural product. The research findings launched an intensive three-year project during which the cultivation, cooking, and distillation of Tequila Partida were tirelessly examined. Old traditions were strengthened while new developments were created. Sourcing for the best blue agave in the Tequila Valley was conducted. The marketing of Tequila Partida was planned to reflect the true heritage, passion and pride of Mexico. Nothing was left to chance. The end result? The celebrated Tequila Partida.” Upon opening the cork-bottled Blanco first, I absorbed the soft floral scent before pouring some of the blue agave liquid into a high-ball glass. Upon the first sip, my taste buds were surrounded by the rich sensation of fresh herbs, citrus, and tropical fruit, tantalizing but not overpowering. It left my palate feeling refreshed, without the aftertaste of some tequilas, a testament to the quality of Partida and their distillation methods. The next day, it was on to the aged Reposado tequila, with its light amber color combined with splashes of golden tones. Upon partaking of the first sip, I immediately noticed the absence of any of the smoky flavor common to most reposados. My mouth was engulfed with the pleasing taste of vanilla, hazelnut and almond, and I could understand why Partida Reposado has been referred to as the "The Bentley of Reposado's". So far, the Partida line was a solid 5-star on my review scale, but the following day would see me, with much anticipation, uncork the sample of their vaunted Anejo, which is aged in American oak one-pass Jack Daniels barrels. It revealed an intense flavor that could only be derived from advanced aging coupled with the pleasing aroma of cherry, almond, dried fruit and spices. As for its captivating taste, soft honey fruited tones intermingled with flavorful hints of banana, chocolate and sweet pear. To appreciate the true flavor of this masterpiece, it has to be savored as one would a fine wine or aged bourbon, a true 5-star experience that is richly rewarding. Congratulations to Partida on their production of a premium line of tequilas that should take a much-deserved, front-of-the-line place of distinction among the premier brands of tequila everywhere. Viva la Partida Tequila!

Was a good Reposado. I payed way to much at $67.00 for a bottle. The flavor is different on this one. Will say it is a very clean buzz and even with the spice like flavor that I was a little unsure about, I still enjoyed it. No bad after taste, has a nice bite.

Damned nice tequila! A very refined and gentlemanly Reposado. The volcanic soil the agave is grown in shine through giving it a unique terroir through the flavor profile.
