Proof66 Notes

River Pilot Vodka is titled as an homage to the Mississippi River pilots that brought shipping to Le Claire, Iowa. It is made from a base of Iowa-grown corn harvested within 3 miles of the distillery itself blended with a corn spirit from a local plant. The pilot on the label is an artist's rendition of Philip Suiter who arrived by boat to Le Claire in 1836.

We find the River Pilot vodka a very nice vodka, particularly in certain settings. One isn’t overly enthusiastic about the vodka but it carries its head high in a number of different settings. It’s highest and best use was mixed in a Pina Colada cocktail or similar fruit-forward vodka cocktails where it was outstanding. There is a robust taste to the vodka that would probably delight those who prefer potato vodkas for their martinis.
