Proof66 Notes

8 Seconds Canadian Whisky is an 8yr old blend that is meant to honor the 8 seconds of the cowboy rodeo. Marketing literature claims it is a blend of over 30 batches of varying whiskies all aged in oak. They call it a "perfect blend of hard work and finesse."

I like to drink my whiskey on the rocks. I found this one to be so sweet as to be I drinkable. I poured rest of the bottle down the sink.

This whiskey is intended for drinkers who do not want the heavy, peaty flavor. Without comparing to the typical whiskey flavor this is actually a very drinkable whiskey. Enjoyable and smooth and pretty tasty. For the price I would prefer something like Maker's Mark if I am looking for that whiskey flavor but as a diversion its a good sipper.

Another upstart Canadian blended whiskey, 8 Seconds suffers from some of the same problems as its price competitor, Pendleton, in that the whiskey-ness is lacking. Not to the same degree as Pendleton, but I was surprised this one wasn't more daring to the tongue. It does warm the mouth pleasantly in place of Pendleton's soft burn, and the flavor is slightly deeper, but I remember even Crown Royal providing more flavor than this (if a lot more burn). The bottle is nice and modern while having a cowboy flair to it, though, so that hits the intended audience.  If you want a light whiskey, try 8 Seconds. If you want medium to bold flavor, and more body, look elsewhere. It seems Canada's younger brands have more work to do on their taste profiles.
