Proof66 Notes

The Isle of Arran Distillery describes itself as one of the few remaining independent scotch distilleries. It was founded recently in 1995 based upon the results of a geological survey for weather conditions and the purity of its water. They use traditional methods of scotch-making, with particular emphasis on non-chill filtered whiskies, making them cloudier and, in some sense, chewier than other scotches.

This is really a wonderful Scotch. A powerful malt flavor with fruity overtones and a peppery finish. No smoke or sherry notes to obscure the great flavor of an unchilled filtered malt. I prefer a few drops of water to open up the flavors. Well worth trying this gem.

A single malt Scotch bargain in the $40-$45 range and one of the better non peated 10 year expressions I've tasted lately. Light and sweet nose. This is a very light whisky in general, but it features an array of nice fruity offerings; pineapple, coconut, slight banana, is this a tropical scotch you ask? Clean and quick finish and very easy single malt, nice proof at 92 and non chill filtered, definitely recommended if you don't want to wrestle with your malt and just enjoy something easy 4.1/5.0

This one is an interesting malt. I agree with magezi in that it's very fruity, especially on the nose; I get vanilla, apricots, apples, and maybe a hint of citrus. On the palate there's a surprising oak/black pepper spice that wasn't there in the aroma which livens the experience up a bit. The rest of the palate is a malty sweetness with traits of the fruits mentioned in the nose. The black pepper lingers on the finish. I liked the pour enough to try some of Arran's other offerings, but I'm not sure if this 10 year is worth the going rate where I live.
