Proof66 Notes

Bushmills Red Bush Irish Whiskey was first released in 2016 as an extension of their line of Irish whiskeys. The label suggests it's geared to be a soft and approachable whiskey (as opposed to higher proof and more strongly flavored whiskeys) and appears to be aged exclusively in ex-bourbon casks (as opposed to their other labels, which often have sherry cask aging qualities).

It's a very enjoyable whiskey. BDanner seems to have the flavors described very well. The hot finish is more like an 86 proof whiskey. On ice it gets a little sweeter with more of the chocolate notes. Best served neat.

$24 for this one in my area. Nose is delicate but rich with apple juice, pear, grain, shellac and a light smokiness. Neat it enters slightly sweet and grain forward. The apple and pear from the nose make a brief appearance. This is followed by a short and slightly hot finish with a light chocolate note lingering on the palate. You can definitely pick up on the fact that this one is aged in ex bourbon instead of ex sherry casks. Verdict? This is good, a light easy uncomplicated sipper. From memory this is definitely worth the extra dollar or two over the White Label, but I still have the white in my cabinet from a few St Paddy's days ago and will try and do a side by side. Thanks Tango for putting this one (as well as several other good whiskies) on my radar in the past few months.
