Proof66 Notes

Crown Royal Monarch 75th Anniversary blend whisky is a limited edition of Crown Royal produced to celebrate the distillery's 75th anniversary. The whisky itself features a rye grain, which suggest a spicier, more robust whisky than the typical smooth and easy-drinking Crown profile. The rye whisky is said to come from the "Coffey rye still" located in Gimli, Manitoba.

One of my favorites. This whisky is smooth, flavorful, and fairly sweet all at once. Definitely light-bodied compared to the average whiskey- even the average Canadian whiskey. Soft flavors, perhaps a bit floral. The lingering taste is somehow soft and clean, but sweet with a touch of spice. I get mine for about $35/bottle. Probably still worth it at $75, but I would have second thoughts.

Very enjoyable! It's Crown Royal- it is notably smooth, with a clean finish. There is a nice fruit-spice interplay. The comparison below to an aged rum is apt.

We give this 3 stars as compared to the entire world of whiskey but it would be an easy 4 stars in the lighter-bodied world of Canadian Whisky. The nose is soft and sweet... a candied note in front of the oak. Almost smells like an aged rum in some ways. The Crown Royal smoothness is all there... it tastes pillow-like going down. If that's the goal, success! For people more used to single barrel bourbons or cask strength scotches, it might feel a little light. Still, it has a finish... it's subtle but it is also there long and lingering. We can give a strong recommendation to Crown Royal fans.
