Proof66 Notes

The Dewar's 12yr Ancestor Blended Scotch is named for the "ancestor" John Dewar who founded the company. The label announces itself as a "married" blend, indicating that the blend of whiskies were then vatted together and aged in oak to meld together before bottling.

Dewar's 12yr The Ancestor Scotch is good value at 28 dollars for 750 ml in Houston, Texas. The complex. nose has warming aromas of smoke, heather, honey, toffee spice and oak. The entry is smooth with complex palate of malt, smoke , pipe tobacco and citrus. The lingering finish is smoke , cinnamon, oak, and honey. It is sweet, and would make a great after dinner drink. This is the only Dewar's product that is good . The honey is pronounced from the nose to palate and especially the finish.

This sounds very appealing, but I don't think I can get this in Michigan. Such a shame, I enjoy the standard 12 year Reserve.

This scotch whisky is made out of barley grain, aged 12 years in oak casks. Uniquely, since the producer of this whisky cannot add the aditional months of aging after, blending it after 12 years and aging for another 6 months after bleding due to law the producer would need to mature it after blending in casks which are less than 700 litres , which Is not done in smallers than 700 litre casks , after initial aging it for 12 they call it double matured , after 12 years this whisky is aged for an additional 6 months after initial blending which adds to its harmonious yet heady notes of stone fruit and floral; the palate is light-bodied and balanced with flavours of vanilla, caramel, and raisin , Sultana , very little herbal notes with a fruity and spicy, medium length finish. Very well balanced not grainy , yet complex, its comparable to Single Malt Scotch Whisky. Flavour of dried fruits prunes , raisins , hint of sherry, hint of corn grain , .Bottled at 40% ABV. Colour : Apricot color . Finish Dry finish
