Proof66 Notes

GlenDronach scotches are known for their rich, sherry finish characteristics. First founded in 1826, the legend has it that founder James Allardice got his start when he was "accosted by two ladies of the evening." He returned to his hotel room where they drank his scotch that he had been unsuccessfully trying to sell... word quickly spread about the night's "shenanigans" followed by many requests for what the women had been drinking.

I totally agree with PhatCat's review (read his for the tasting notes). I think this is the best sherry finished 12 that I've had so far. I think it's better than the equivalent 12's from Balvenie, Aberlour, Dalmore, Glenmorangie, and Macallan (I'll have to do a side by side with the Macallan; really liking that one lately). For me there's nothing to criticize or change about this one, so 5 stars it is!

My most expansive scotch after the Big Peat (which I dislike). I can recognize the taste of GlenDronach pretty easily. It's a little peaty and I could hardly describe the distinctive taste (sherry I guess). This being said, it's too dry/strong for my taste, especially for the price.

Absolutely beautiful. There's no denying it's a sherried whisky, but it's far from one-dimensional. Fudge. Nuts. Juicy fruits. Spice. They're all here but with some other stuff notes drifting in and out as well. While there's a nice complexity to this 12YR, what I like most is the sweet and dry balance. Some sherried whiskies can get rather spicy and dry in the finish, but the juicy fruits and creamy mouthfeel prevent that from happening here. Incredible stuff. It's currently one of my favorites, and I believe this should be the benchmark for all sherried scotch. Your collection is not complete without GlenDronach.

Right now, this is my favorite Scotch. There's something about it (I do not have a sensitive palate, so I couldn't tell you what that something is) that gives it a nice kick at the end. Highly recommended.
