Proof66 Notes

The Glenfiddich 21yr is finished for the final 4 months in Carribean rum casks, "infusing the whisky with a rich and indulgent toffee sweetness."

The 2011 Wine Enthusiast review suggested pairing with savory game dishes and fruity desserts.

Glenfiddich Distillery was built with the "bare hands" of William Grant and his nine (nine!) sons in 1886.

About 3 weeks ago, I had this beautiful Scotch single malt whisky at a local whisky tasting. Along with 3 William Grant Tullamore Dews (all pretty fair), we tasted the Balvenie 12 Doublewood & Balvenie 14 Caribbean Cask (both quite nice), Glenfiddich Solera 15 (a 5* in its own right) & this Glenfiddich 21. This GF21 was the best of show. The nose was heavy thick malt. The taste was heavy, rich, and solid which coated the tongue and was smooth as silk. The finish was long and did not have any late bitterness. The balance among the elements of this whisky is as good as one can expect. At $160 plus, this is quite expensive. If I had infinite money I would buy it. I don't have infinite money, and thus, I won't buy it. However, I have GF21t as a baseline and aspiration. If I can get this at another tasting, I'll be sure to attend. Buy this, if you have sufficient funds.

4.3/5, slightly better than the 19 but close the the same level although different. What separates it is the finish. You still get the tart apple but less orange and the rum finish I think gives it a nice added complexity and lingers a bit. Definitely the best finish of the lot

Smooth, rich, and pleasantly warming. Easily one of the best single malts Ive ever had. Everything a Speyside should be.

Very smooth, sweet and long finish. About even with the Macallan 18. Enjoyed this bottle! And yes, would make a great gift!

A immensely drinkable Single Malt, not overly woody and lively - which is amazing given the age - and very easy to appreciate even for a novice drinker. A wonderful malt to enjoy before a fire and dreaming of warmer climes. A excellent choice for a gift (for yourself or a good friend).
