Proof66 Notes

Jack Daniel's Sinatra Select Tennessee whisky is named for the late, legendary Frank Sinatra who is claimed as being "Jack's biggest fan." According to the press release in Business Week (Devin Leonard), he kept a bottle onstage with him and was buried with a flask filled with the Tennessee whiskey. The whiskey is aged in barrels with "grooved staves," which is thought to promote contact between spirit and wood and create different (accelerated) aging characteristics (we find this similar in theory to using smaller barrels or "chipping" by placing woods inside the barrel like a tea bag). Jack Daniel's Distillery began in 1863 when Jack Daniel--working for one Dan Call--purchased the still he was working at when he was 13 years old.
