Single Malt rating 4.7/5. Outstanding Laphroig selection. I would recommend adding a touch of water and let sit for a minute or two to open up. The fruit and sweet notes will become more apparent. Even at a high APV, the finish is smooth and the peat smokiness is actually enhanced by the cask strength. I highly recommend this whisky to fans of Islay peated whisky. Update: I see some high prices quoted, here in ChicagoLand it is currently $59 consistently. Mostly the Jan and Feb 2014 batches. It is a popular product.

Just as good as I had imagined it to be! The same smoky, salty, briny goodness as the original 10 year-old with everything turned way up! The fatty acids that don’t get filtered out really give this a nice, oily mouth-feel and extra flavor(s). When poured neat, the alcohol is detectable on the nose and only slightly when tasting. It really only requires a drop or two of water to cool down the alcohol. All-in-all, I have to say I love this stuff! However, it was a little pricier than I anticipated. I was only expecting to pay about $65 for my bottle and it rang in just over $85. At this price, I won’t be buying frequently, but will most certainly buy again!

I'm not going to go into what notes you can get off this, but it is amazing stuff. I think the regular 10 year is still my go-to as this is a tad strong even for me, but on an ice cube there is very little that one could consider a better drink than this.

This is an absolutely stellar whisky. One of my all time favorites. It might even be higher on my list than Lagavulin (for now at least). Tons of peat and smoke, medicinal qualities, salt - you can actually taste the sea. The oak char comes through and is reminiscent of tree sap. I drink neat 95% of the time, but Laphroaig's website recommended a splash of water. I tried it, and it did indeed open things up and smooth it out, but that salty brininess is lost. Stay neat. Take your time. Smell the Atlantic salt air. And enjoy one of the best libations on the planet.

decent flavor, but would choose many others before drinking again.

Similar in experience, though not necessarily flavor, to Ardbeg's Corryvreckan. Enjoyable Islay flavors with the volume turned up high enough that the neighbors call the cops on you. I thought after having the standard 10 year, which itself is full flavored, that this would be too much. It really isn't. It doesn't require the water or ice that I thought it would.

This is a good one. Like alchemist mentioned, you might think taking a bold laphraoig and going cask strength on it would be a heavy duty peaty blast! But it suprisingly isn't. The balance is great, the flavors are interesting, & it's quite enjoyable. Ard Cor is the heavy balanced peat engine I was expecting this to taste like. I haven't tried with water yet but am looking forward to it. It's a good bottle but just know what your getting yourself into before hand
